Possible Pole Shift and Earth Changes

Concerning earth changes I was asked about the best or safest places to go. There is no where that any one can point to and say that this place will be totally safe (I can’t). At best we can make educated guesses and follow instincts and inner guidance in choosing a safer place. It is not my purpose; plan, aim or goal to start telling people to go here or there and you will be safe. I have ideas, but nothing concrete as of yet. At this point all I am trying to do is raise consciousness levels. “Wake up, be aware, listen, observe and prepare” that is all I’m saying.

My first concern would have to be the topography and logistics of the land I would consider retreating to. For very obvious reasons you wouldn’t want to build it in a flood plane. I don’t mean just the obvious ones either. Some areas flood every time it rains; others flood after very heavy rainfalls. Then there are the 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 10,000-year floods to consider. All you need is one to wipe you out no matter how rare an occurrence they are.

A lot of people have the misconception that a 100-year flood will only happen once in a hundred years. That is the wrong way to look at it. A 100-year flood has a 1 in 100 chance of happening every year. Ask some of the people living in the Midwest in 1993 and 1996 about that.

Something else that most people never consider is that wherever there is a body of water there is a chance of flooding. Have you ever tried to carry a full bucket or glass while walking fast or running? In California during some of their major earthquakes do you know what cause considerable damage to some homes? Water… from swimming pools! So living next to a river, stream, lake or even a large pool can put your home site at risk.

Elevation above sea level is something that would be of prime concern to me. The same psychics that are predicting earth changes also recommend elevations 500 meters or 700 feet above sea level. The Appalachians that run from North Alabama to Canada have elevations that run from 1,000 to over 6,000 feet. I would tend to prefer something above a thousand feet myself. Just because it’s a mountain that doesn’t necessarily mean that I would consider it safe.

Various forces over the eons have caused mountains to form. Mountains built due to volcanic activity in the past are a definite no – no. Remember Mt. St. Helens. Also look at the Rockies see some of their sheer rises of thousands of feet? Some of them were formed violently due to Teutonic plates shifting and colliding with great forces. I believe that some of those same forces that happened in the past could very well come into play in the future. So such forces could very well level those mountains built by such forces. With that said I still look at the Rocky Mountains as a viable place to consider relocating to in order to ride out possible earth changes. I also like the Ozarks Mountains of north western Arkansas and south western Missouri far enough away from the New Madrid earthquake fault zone.

On the Internet there is a USGS site http://earthquake.usgs.gov/ that shows recent earthquakes in the USA visit the site when you have a chance. Take note of the areas of dark green and brown. Also notice the areas of lighter greens and gold. The areas of dark green are lowlands or flood plains. The brown areas are mountainous regions that were formed by that Teutonic plate movement that I just described. The areas of gold on the map are the kinds of locations that I would consider for retreating to. These tend to be areas at least 1000 feet above sea level and above that.

While I don’t particularly see the Appalachians as supremely ideal due to their close proximity to the major population centers of the east coast. Living where I am now, I see that area as being reachable within eight hours. I see eight hours as doable after an event has occurred (better if you could be there before). Without Yellowstone volcano erupting the area I like best is Idaho and the eastern part of Montana and the western part of North Dakota, but it would take 28 or hours of fast hard driving to get there. That in it self would make it a bit more difficult to reach.

That area is more sparsely populated. After any kind of collapse or cataclysm people will be the most dangerous threat you’ll have face or deal with. Desperate people are very dangerous and never underestimate them. If I had to choose between being encircled by a hundred hungry man eating tigers and ten desperate humans to face in a fight for my life I’d choose the tigers hands down each and every time. I repeat people are capable of thought, cunning, deception and ingenuity when it comes to killing they are nature’s deadliest creatures, people are very dangerous!  It is not currently earthquake active (although there is no such thing as an earthquake safe place, they can and will happen anywhere.). As far as I know there are few nuclear power plants in that general area (I don’t know about military installations such as nuclear missile silos).

While the winter climate there is very harsh and sever, in the event of a 20-degree pole shift (as predicted) the climate there will become like California’s is now. Food for thought, about people again, large cities and huge urban areas I would avoid all together. There will be thousands of people there that have made no preparations what so ever. Some are solely dependent on the government to take care of them now and will expect the same after a cataclysm. Lots of these people have never worked a day in their lives and feel the life and society and you owe them their existence.

Have you ever seen mobs rioting? I don’t mean just on TV. I have and it isn’t a pretty site. Mob mentality is that of the least intelligent person there. The mass IQ of a mob is reduced to that of it densest members. Violence and brutality run unchecked and logic is absent. Remember the LA riots, those people burned and looted their own community! Were those the actions of logical rational people? Look at the rioting in Jakarta, Indonesia. What did raping and looting have to do with protesting a dictator’s rule? Hundreds of people died there. As if that wasn’t enough imagine what war zones cities will become with criminal gangs running unchecked and vigilantes taking charge.

Then also consider how unlivable cities will become if their basic infrastructure collapses? Can you see yourself living in the midst of broken gas, sewer, water and electrical lines? There may not be anyone around to shut things down and repair them. How long living under such conditions do you think it would take before the outbreak of disease? You can’t pick up a gun and fend off virulence!  Now, for the coup de grace concerning my distaste for cities as places of survival is Martial law.

Have you considered that after a major disaster that martial law might be imposed? Civil law and constitutional rights are immediately gone! Strict curfews are imposed; your movements are limited and restricted. You violate martial law and you can be shot right on the spot with out due process of any kind. I have yet to hear of any dead person protesting an error in someone else’s judgment. Okay, lets assume that you were very well prepared in you city dwelling. Do you know that under martial law you can be forced to evacuate to a “relocation” center and leave it all behind?

The provisions that you were so wise and fortunate to store up for such a day (you do have them stored up right?) could be confiscated for redistribution to others (there are already presidential executive orders stating as much under “emergency powers”). You have little if any rights to personal and private property under martial law. If some military authority decides; you can be removed forcefully form your home and forced to live on the streets or shipped off to a “relocation center” (concentration camp). Yes, this can happen in America. Remember how the government interred thousands of Japanese-Americans in the so-called interest of national security. The ability to do so is already in place in many areas of our country.

Under the emergency powers act the President can suspend the constitution and impose strict martial law and those freedoms that we value so highly are gone in an instant. It’s already law and congress doesn’t have to approve it. In fact one of the president’s emergency powers act powers is to be able to suspend congress in times of national crisis.  At the end of this I will include some information about FEMA and the President’s emergency powers. So, to sum this all up, I don’t view cities as places of high survivability. I would much prefer a local at least a couple of hours away from a major metropolitan area. I would prefer a location that is convenient distance to a small community.

If nothing ever happens earth change wise you will still want to enjoy the things that civilization can provide. Yet if the shit really hits the fan you would want to be able to head to your safe haven to survive. For long term survival under the worst conditions I would like to be a part of a settlement of say 30 – 50 people. Yes, a number as high as 500 people could work together as a survival commune and prosper. Smaller is better. You still want to be able to manage your resources and logistics without things getting out of hand. Smaller is also better when it comes to escaping the notice of “Big Brother”.

Contrary to some of the militia minded extremists out there, you can’t fight “Big Brother”. I didn’t agree with him, but David Koresh proved that for the world to see. He would have been okay if he had remained low key and low profile. The day you get “Big Brother’s” notice is the day your game hand is called and its time to fold. Right, wrong or otherwise, you will always lose when you go up against “Big Brother”. You can’t call in artillery and air support not to mention heavy armor and shoulder fired heavy weapons, “Big Brother” can and will. Governments down throughout history have proven to be the best and deadliest killers of humankind.

Most [of these laws] remain a a potential source of virtually unlimited power for a President should he choose to activate them. It is possible that some future President could exercise this vast authority in an attempt to place the United States under authoritarian rule.

The Cold Within -- James Patrick Kinney

The Cold Within
Six humans trapped by happenstance
 In dark and bitter cold
Each possessed a stick of wood--
 Or so the story's told.

Their dying fire in need of logs,
But the first one held hers back,
For, of the faces around the fire,
 She noticed one was black.

The next one looked cross the way
Saw one not of his church,
And could not bring himself to give
The fire his stick of birch.

The third one sat in tattered clothes
He gave his coat a hitch,
Why should his log be put to use
 To warm the idle rich?

The rich man just sat back and thought
Of wealth he had in store,
And keeping all that he had earned
 From the lazy, shiftless poor.

The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from his sight,
For he saw in his stick of wood
A chance to spite the white.

And the last man of this forlorn group
 Did nought except for gain,
Giving just to those who gave
Was how he played the game,

Their sticks held tight in death's stilled hands
 Was proof enough of sin;
They did not die from cold without--
 They died from cold within.

The Parable of the Sheep

The Parable of the Sheep
By Charles Riggs

Not so long ago and in a pasture too uncomfortably close to here, a flock of sheep lived and grazed. They were protected by a dog, who answered to the master, but despite his best efforts from time to time a nearby pack of wolves would prey upon the flock.

One day a group of sheep, more bold than the rest, met to discuss their dilemma. "Our dog is good, and vigilant, but he is one dog and the wolves are many. The wolves he catches are not always killed, and the master judges and releases many to prey again upon us, for no reason we can understand. What can we do? We are sheep, but we do not wish to be food, too!"

One sheep spoke up, saying "It is his teeth and claws that make the wolf so terrible to us. It is his nature to prey, and he would find any way to do it, but it is the tools he wields that make it possible. If we had such teeth, we could fight back, and stop this savagery." The other sheep clamored in agreement, and they went together to the old bones of the dead wolves heaped in the corner of the pasture, and gathered fang and claw and made them into weapons.

That night, when the wolves came, the newly armed sheep sprang up with their weapons and struck at them and cried "Begone! We are not food!" and drove off the wolves, who were astonished. When did sheep become so bold and so dangerous to wolves? When did sheep grow teeth? It was unthinkable!

The next day, flush with victory and waving their weapons, they approached the flock to pronounce their discovery. But as they drew nigh, the flock huddled together and cried out "Baaaaaaaadddd! Baaaaaddd things! You have bad things! We are afraid! You are not sheep!"

The brave sheep stopped, amazed. "But we are your brethren!" they cried, "We are still sheep, but we do not wish to be food. See, our new teeth and claws protect us and have saved us from slaughter. They do not make us into wolves, they make us equal to the wolves, and safe from their viciousness!"

"Baaaaaaaddd!", cried the flock,"the things are bad and will pervert you, and we fear them. You cannot bring them into the flock. They scare us!". So the armed sheep resolved to conceal their weapons, for although they had no desire to panic the flock, they wished to remain in the fold. But they would not return to those nights of terror, waiting for the wolves to come.

In time, the wolves attacked less often and sought easier prey, for they had no stomach for fighting sheep who possessed tooth and claw even as they did. Not knowing which sheep had fangs and which did not, they came to leave sheep out of their diet almost completely except for the occasional raid, from which more than one wolf did not return. Then came the day when, as the flock grazed beside the stream, one sheep's weapon slipped from the folds of her fleece, and the flock cried out in terror again, "Baaaaaaddddd! You still possess these evil things! We must ban you from our presence!".

And so they did. The great chief sheep and his court and council, encouraged by the words of their moneylenders and advisors, placed signs and totems at the edges of the pasture forbidding the presence of hidden weapons there. The armed sheep protested before the council, saying "It is our pasture, too, and we have never harmed you! When can you say we have caused you hurt? It is the wolves, not we, who prey upon you. We are still sheep, but we are not food!". But the flock would not hear, and drowned them out with cries of "Baaaaaaddd! We will not hear your clever words! You and your things are evil and will harm us!".

Saddened by this rejection, the armed sheep moved off and spent their days on the edges of the flock, trying from time to time to speak with their brethren to convince them of the wisdom of having such teeth, but meeting with little success. They found it hard to talk to those who, upon hearing their words, would roll back their eyes and flee, crying "Baaaaddd! Bad things!".

That night, the wolves happened upon the sheep's totems and signs, and said, "Truly, these sheep are fools! They have told us they have no teeth! Brothers, let us feed!". And they set upon the flock, and horrible was the carnage in the midst of the fold. The dog fought like a demon, and often seemed to be in two places at once, but even he could not halt the slaughter. It was only when the other sheep arrived with their weapons that the wolves fled, vowing to each other to remain on the edge of the pasture and wait for the next time they could prey, for if the sheep were so foolish once, they would be so again. This they did, and do still.

In the morning, the armed sheep spoke to the flock, and said, "See? If the wolves know you have no teeth, they will fall upon you. Why be prey? To be a sheep does not mean to be food for wolves!". But the flock cried out, more feebly for their voices were fewer, though with no less terror, "Baaaaaaaadddd! These things are bad! If they were banished, the wolves would not harm us! Baaaaaaaddd!". The other sheep could only hang their heads and sigh. The flock had forgotten that even they possessed teeth; how else could they graze the grasses of the pasture? It was only those who preyed, like the wolves and jackals, who turned their teeth to evil ends. If you pulled their own fangs those beasts would take another's teeth and claws, perhaps even the broad flat teeth of sheep, and turn them to evil purposes.

The bold sheep knew that the fangs and claws they possessed had not changed them. They still grazed like other sheep, and raised their lambs in the spring, and greeted their friend the dog as he walked among them. But they could not quell the terror of the flock, which rose in them like some ancient dark smoky spirit and could not be damped by reason, nor dispelled by the light of day.

So they resolved to retain their weapons, but to conceal them from the flock; to endure their fear and loathing, and even to protect their brethren if the need arose, until the day the flock learned to understand that as long as there were wolves in the night, sheep would need teeth to repel them.

They would still be sheep, but they would not be food!

The Living Off the Land Fallacy by Jim Cobb

The Living Off the Land Fallacy
By Jim Cobb
A recurring theme among some survivalists is the plan for living off the land ATSHTF. The idea here is they will get most or all of their sustenance from hunting, fishing, and gathering. There might be a small garden in the works, but that’s about it. In my opinion, the folks who have this sort of plan are just setting themselves up to fail. While on the surface, such a plan probably appeals to the pioneer spirit if nothing else, the reality is it just won’t work.

Now granted, in a total societal collapse hunters need no longer pay attention to all those pesky DNR rules and regulations. In fact, many of those very rules could be turned around and used as suggestions to increase your odds of success. Shining deer is currently illegal but for the survivalist putting food on the table for his family, this might be an excellent way to bag that buck. However, odds are pretty good our hero isn’t going to be the only one out there with a spotlight.

I grew up in an area where deer hunting in particular isn’t just popular, it is almost sacrilege to NOT hunt. Seriously, so many kids are pulled out of school during deer season the schools have to make other arrangements for the few students left behind. Thousands of hunters hit the north woods every year. These are people who live, eat, and breathe hunting. They know all the tricks of the trade, have all the latest and greatest in technological gadgets, and know the land like none other. Yet, in 2009 for example, only about 35% of these hunters bagged deer. That figure is based on official Wisconsin DNR information on the number of deer licenses sold versus the number of hunters who reported bagging one or more deer. So, a little more than one in every three hunters were successful.

Now, that 35% success rate was achieved during somewhat controlled conditions in that we assume the vast majority of bagged deer were killed in compliance with DNR regulations. It would seem obvious the rate would go up once “all bets were off” in terms of not having to limit hunting to specific days/times and conditions, right? Yes…and no. In a total societal collapse, the experienced hunter will have to contend with dozens, if not hundreds, of vastly inexperienced hunters hitting the game trails, shooting at anything that moves. There will also be a tendency for hunters, both new and experienced, to bag much more than they could conceivably consume or preserve for later use. Where one deer might feed a family for quite some time, if the meat is preserved properly, some hunters will kill as many as they can find, either out of greed or with a plan to barter the meat for other commodities. My prediction is the deer herds will be quickly decimated.

But, we’ll not be focusing on hunting big game. We’ll be after the squirrels, ‘coons, rabbits, and other critters we see all over the place!

Sure, that’s probably a better plan. But again, there will be hundreds of people thinking the exact same thing. Plus, there will be thousands of family pets (dogs, cats, etc.) that will have gone feral and hunting the same critters. How long will it take before there won’t be nary a squirrel to be found? Plus, let’s be honest. How many meals can one scrawny squirrel really provide?

Ok, smart guy. We’ll supplement our hunting and trapping with fishing.

Again, not an inherently bad idea. But you need to consider the throngs of weekend Babe Winkelman wannabes who are going to descend upon any body of water larger than a mud puddle. Further, how many fishing “experts” do you know who come home empty-handed, time and again? Not to mention, today sitting on a riverbank and wetting a line can be the height of relaxation. After TSHTF, one of your new competitors might take a liking to your catch of the day and decide it is quicker and easier to take it from you than find his own.

Really, that goes for all hunting and trapping endeavors. Do you really feel comfortable risking your life, and the lives of your family, over one skinny rabbit or a couple bluegills? Is that a gamble you’re willing to take?

That’s the meat end of the spectrum. What about harvesting wild plants and herbs? Being successful with that comes down to a few factors.

1) You MUST know what you’re doing. Get started NOW with learning what is edible in your area, how to identify it, collect it, and prepare it for consumption. Trying to find food while you’re suffering from farts with lumps isn’t going to be a lot of fun.

2) From where are you going to collect these tasty treats? Sure, if you’ve already accomplished the first point above, you’re a leg up on the competition but there are still going to be tons of folks out there grabbing anything green and shoving it into their pie holes.

3) It is vastly more difficult to find dandelion greens in the middle of January in much of the country. What is your plan for during the winter months?

The point is this. If your primary plan for TEOTWAWKI is to “live off the land,” you better have a backup plan. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting you abandon all plans for hunting/fishing/trapping/gathering. Rather, consider those options as ways to supplement what you’ve stockpiled and grown on your own. Generally speaking, the plan would be to have enough food packed away to get you through at least one, if not two, complete growing seasons. Have plans in place for growing much of your own food from seeds you harvest yourself. Raise chickens, goats, and other potential meat sources. Learn now the best ways to preserve meat if you don’t have access to electricity, and thus freezers.

Above all, abandon the attitude of “Me hunter. Me go kill meat for family.” That way of thinking will indeed likely result in a death, but probably not of the four-legged variety.
